iCandy - Leeds

Please note this establishment is now closed.

Don't let the name of this place put you off, with a lot of new businesses and enterprises jumping on the apple bandwagon and coming up with witty (or less so) coins and play on words by sticking a little 'i' in front of words. I diverge...

The pink sparkliness of this place screams at you, and it does I'll be honest, look like a place for teenage girls. Looking beyond this I peered in at the menu a few months a go and noticed that they do a wide range of hot drinks and desserts.

This place appealed to me at the time because we had just recently visited a number of restaurants and after finishing our main meals found ourselves wanting a sweet treat. However when presented with a dessert menu we were less than impressed or tempted. I found myself wishing that there was a place in Leeds that I could just go for dessert when a restaurant had let me down on that side.

And then... up one popped!

Cupcakes by Charley - Leeds

Please note this establishment in Leeds has now closed, you can however still find them in Harrogate in The Montepellier Quarter.

Cupcakes by Charley, the first time I saw this place I thought "Oh no not another person jumping on the cupcake bandwagon"... I don't mind a cupcake but I would prefer a hunk of cake instead, the copious amounts of buttercream you get on cupcakes oo is a little too much for me.

I'm not going to deny that just passing by and looking through their window I was impressed with the look and variety of the variety of cupcakes on offer. The Saturday previously I decided to wander down Queens arcade, as I was peering in to Aladdin's Cave's window the smell of freshly baked cupcakes was creeping towards me. I decided to once again look in the window, and also have a look at what drinks they had to offer. We were due to go to Little Tokyo for lunch this day so I didn't go in.

However... the next day when I found myself once again in Leeds City Centre on the Sunday. My friend and I were absolutely freezing from the wind and rain that day and so decided to seek shelter and warmth somewhere that could provide us with Hot Chocolate and cake.

Little Tokyo - Leeds

Little Tokyo is somewhere I have often heard people talk about and refer to as a good place to go, a few of my friends used to go here just for the cocktails. However it was never somewhere I was desperate to go eat or drink. From the outside it doesn't look very appetising it has blacked out windows with pictures of the food displayed on them.

However after reading another blog and their experience, plus doing a little research in to their menu online I thought I'd give it a whirl.

It was about 12.30pm when we arrived outside absolutely starving from a hectic morning. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a lady in a rather stunning Kimono, we asked for a table for two and were led towards the back of the building. First impressions?
It didn't look like anything special perhaps just a little dark. She led us towards a row of stools and I was thinking I really do not want to sit on those today! That's when she appeared to sink down and she turned to us and told us to mind our step. My friend and I exchanged confused looks only to creep nearer and realise that hidden on the over side of the bar with the stools was a staircase. She led us down the staircase in to the basement which was much more impressive than upstairs.

Interlude Cafe - Shipley

It's actually taken me a couple of months to finish writing this post. For no reason other than I left it too long after we first visited the cafe and then I had other posts to write and this one was sort of just put on a back burner.

Please don't let the above comment influence your opinion on this place as it is an absolutely lovely place to visit!

It was my first trip to Shipley (in search of somewhere to live) and I wanted to explore the area a little and find somewhere nice to have lunch. I did some quick distracted googling whilst I was getting ready that morning and saw something about a place called 'Interlude Cafe' which served cream tea... in the mood for cream tea I popped the postcode in my phone ready to find around lunch time.

So about 12pm we were starting to feel a little peckish, I pulled out my phone and asked it to direct me to the correct place.

We were stood on the street it told us to and according to my phone I was right in front of it... but where was it??

That's when I noticed this building across the street....
