For those of you who don't know anything about The Marvellous Tea Dance Company... It was established in 2006 and before opening their tea room they catered for vintage fairs, events, festivals and much more taking with them their portable teeny tiny tea shed, tea potty shed their vintage crockery and awesome cakes... So you may have already seen them around.
I can't even remember what my first Marvellous event was but I fell in love with them right from the start. The cakes are beautiful, not only in looks but also in taste. I love the theme that have adopted and never changed, vintage crockery mixed with retro furniture, and 1950's music. I've always had an awesome time at any of their events. They are very child friendly too and you often see some of their regulars with a baby glued to their hip.
Here are some of my previous pictures of The Marvellous Tea Dance ladies events and cakes...
TMTDC were based at Dock Street Market for a short time..
I really want one of these tea cosies!
This was an event at The Hifi Club in Leeds, pictured below is my friend's favourite cupcake the chocolate and peanut butter cupcake, there was also bingo to be played!
TMTDC at Leeds Loves Food Festival 2011, people sitting drinking tea and eating cake in the sunshine bloody marvellous!
The Marvellous ladies at the Yelp event just before Christmas.
There are plenty more pictures, but I have so many pictures it would take me half a day to find them all again!
Back to the brand spanking new tearoom...
The tearoom is on the ground floor of Birds Yard, I've 'borrowed' the tea ladies map so, if like me, you have never heard of Bird's Yard you can find out where it is! It's near Leeds Markets in a new up and coming area of Leeds City Centre. Much of the street is still yet to be renovated but don't let the old crumbly buildings around put you off.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch party on Thursday the 29th of March along with some friends (Thanks Donna). The launch party, as to be expected, was a little different to the tearooms normal days trading. Outside welcoming us and ticking our names off the guest list where some 8 foot high burlesque lovelies. The place was heaving as soon as we stepped in, and we were all impressed from first sight.
We were all introduced to tea cocktails out in the back yard, which were served in tea cups.
There was a lovely spread on and plenty to go around despite the numbers!
Scones with jam and cream
Rose and Pistachio Cake
It was lovely to see a surprise appearance from Mike at @indieices with his award wining Kulfi Indian ice cream, and I finally got to try one and it was wonderful! Indiesices will soon be available on the tearooms dessert menu.

Bird's Yard is such a great place for the Tea Ladies to have their tea room, the decor is alternative and you can never get bored at staring at your surroundings. Upstairs there are a number of independent shops, including alternative jewellery shop, vintage clothes shop and a hairdressers.
One of my favourite decorations in the Tearoom are the lights which they have made themselves. It composes of a teapot on the ceiling with the teacups holding the bulbs.
There are also some little cubby holes which have more independent sellers goods, I really want one of the aprons sold in one particular little cubby.
I popped back the following Saturday to take some clearer pictures and get a feel for the place as it would be on a normal trading day. It was fairly quiet at about 12pm on their first Saturday as they are still finding their feet.
The 1950s record player was spinning out some glorious tunes whilst the midday sun streamed through the windows.
I ordered a pot of tea for two and a big slice of Victoria Sponge.
As good as it's always been, no skimping on the portion sizes glitter dazzling the top of the cake. There are a range of teas you can order but we settled on the good old favourite Yorkshire Tea. Not in to tea? They also do proper coffee.
The Marvellous ladies also do a light lunch of soup, sandwiches and toasted tea cakes. There are varieties of cake on offer or a good old cream tea.
I'm so happy that there is finally a tearoom in Leeds I can go to and relax, have a pot of Yorkshire tea and a big slab of delicious cake (none of these tiddly slices others provide).
The Marvellous Tea Dance Company is still available for events and hire, see their website for more details.
