Canton Flavour - Garforth

Canton Flavour is my favourite Chinese takeaway. They know they are good, they are so good that they don't need to deliver, people come flocking to it.

I think that I am becoming a regular as the woman behind the counter is starting to recognise me, maybe... Bless that woman behind the counter too as she is ALWAYS there no matter what time of night you go or what day, AND they now open 7 days a week.

I often get Chinese takeaway on my way home from visiting people and take a detour home from the train station to go pick up some Chinese, or sometimes I'm just feeling lazy and want something tasty to eat without too much effort.

I have gotten myself in to a little rut however and have started ordering the same thing every time I go. I usually order chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, chips and separate pot of curry sauce. My mouth is watering just typing that.

I only get one portion of everything because the portion sizes are quite substantial. As you can see it fills the plate, and that's only half of the food.

Everything from here tastes really fresh, not like it has been stood around for ages. This may be because it's so popular. My friend who lives in the next town even gets Chinese food from here rather than somewhere nearer.

You get plenty of veg and plenty of chicken in the chow mein and it's served wet. For those of you who are not accustomed to the terms wet and dry when it comes to Chinese food (I have only known what this means for a couple of years) it means the noodles and all the food is cooked in the chow mein sauce, if you get it dry the noodles are cooked separately.

The veg is crunchy not sloppy and the noodles are just the kind I like, big fat egg noodles none of these piddly noodles that look like those tiny worms you find in the garden.

The chips (sorry I failed to take a picture of them) are proper Chinese takeaway chips chunky with crispy bits, almost rectangle shape. They taste great with salt and I like to dip them in curry sauce (separately). Sometimes if we feel I've eaten too much crap and not enough good stuff I will order a portion of stir fried veg too.

Canton flavour also do Thai food, but this isn't something I have tried. Maybe one day. Maybe.

My regular meal comes to £9 something, which I think is modestly priced compared to some takeaways. I will be really gutted when I move as I'm moving too far away to be able to order from here any more (sad face) I hope I can find somewhere just as good!
